About the Author
Lai Ma
Born in 1968, she published her first book, "I Became a Fire-Breathing Dragon!", at the age of 27, which received critical acclaim and led her to become a full-time picture book creator. Currently, she and her family of five live and play in Taitung, Taiwan.
In Lai Ma's works, each seemingly humorous and lighthearted story is actually rigorously structured, striving not only to be plausible but also logical; every detail of the cleverly arranged images has undergone repeated deliberation and careful crafting. Beyond the initial amazement, they are worthy of repeated readings.
Lai Ma's works have won almost all of Taiwan's major picture book awards and topped the Eslite Bookstore bestseller list for picture books for three consecutive years. In 2007, he was invited to give a lecture at the Osaka International Children's Literature Museum. The widespread popularity of each of his new works demonstrates Lai Ma's charm in the world of picture books.
Each of Lai Ma's new works is widely loved. "The Crying Princess," published in 2014, won the Golden Tripod Award for Children's and Young People's Books. Together with the Emotion Series "The Angry Prince" and "The Brave Little Train," it has achieved a remarkable sales record of over 130,000 copies, which is enough to demonstrate Lai Ma's charm in the world of picture books.
