"I've loved reading comic books since I was a child, and I also love reading traditional Chinese novels. If I had to choose my favorite work from all the novels in Chinese history, it would be 'Journey to the West'!" — Tsai Chih-chung

Journey to the West is one of China's "Four Great Classical Novels," widely circulated around the world and translated into many languages.

The book tells the story of Tang Sanzang and his four disciples—Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing—on their journey to the Western Paradise to obtain Buddhist scriptures. The story is widely known and has been adapted into various local operas, films, television series, animated films, comics, and other versions, exerting a far-reaching influence.

Within the original framework of "Journey to the West," Tsai Chih-chung uses his boundless imagination to transform familiar classic scenes into four-panel comics. Besides incorporating his understanding of traditional classic works into the comic's appeal, he also frequently includes current events from the 1980s, adding another layer of contemporary significance to the series.
